Cupping
Myofascial Cupping
1. What Exactly Is Cupping?
- Technique has existed in various forms for several thousand years.
- Historically used to relieve pain
- Suction causes negative pressure in the treated tissue.
2. What Is the Purpose of Cupping?
- Suction, or negative pressure gradient, helps to 'create space' in the tissue beneath the skin, which aids in...
- Movement of fibrotic or stiff subcutaneous tissues, including muscle and fascia.
- Increases blood flow to the treated area. Remember that blood flow equals healing.
- The exchange of fluids in the interstitial areas (blood flow and lymph tissue)
- Enhancing the sensory connection of the treated body area with the brain via neurochemical reaction. Aids in the restoration of normal movement patterns
3. What Does the Research Say...
- Cupping improves functional tissue mobility and pain levels in people who suffer from chronic pain.
- Cupping can help enhance quality of life by alleviating discomfort.
- The low back, neck, and shoulder regions are being studied.
- Therapeutic intervention with a very low risk!
4. Will I Bruise Following Treatment?
Some may be familiar with the circular ‘bruising’ seen on athletes treated with this approach; however, bruising does not immediately correlate with success. You may benefit from treatment with or without bruising. Any bruising or skin discoloration that develops after therapy usually fades within a few hours. Some may linger for a few days or weeks, but they are not detrimental to your system. The cause of the post-treatment skin darkening is unknown, however it is most likely due to a histamine response in the body.
5. Why should I pay for this?
Cupping’s Clinical Advantages
- Pain alleviation
- Encourage healing
- Increase blood flow
- Aids in the restoration of functional movement in the myofascial system.
- Improve sensory synchronization and integration of the body with the desired movement pattern.
6.Who Shouldn't Get This Done?
During the evaluation procedure, the treating therapist will determine whether cupping is appropriate for you. If it is not, an appropriate treatment process will be implemented.
